Industry Scientists Recognized for Achievement, Service

    at 53rd RMC

    COLUMBUS, Ohio-–The following scientists and professors were

    honored here at the recently concluded 53rd Annual Reciprocal Meat

    Conference, sponsored by the American Meat Science Association.

 

    Achievement Awards: Jane Ann Boles, assistant professor of animal

    science at Montana State University; David E. Gerrard, assistant

    professor of animal sciences at Purdue University; and Phyllis J.

    Shand, associate professor in applied microbiology and food science at

    the University of Saskatchewan.

 

    Meritorious Service Award (for intercollegiate meat judging):

    Verlin K. Johnson, retired professor of meat science at North Dakota

    State University.

 

    International Award: Herbert W. Ockerman, professor of meat

    science at The Ohio State University.

 

    Meat Processing Award: Stephen G. Campano, group manager for

    protein technical support, Central Soya Co.

 

    Distinguished Research Award: Cameron Faustman, associate

    professor of animal science at the University of Connecticut.

 

    Distinguished Extension-Industry Service Award: Floyd K.

    McKeith, professor at the University of Illinois College of Agricultural,

    Consumer and Environmental Sciences.

 

    Distinguished Teaching Award: Dean W. Henderson, professor of

    animal science at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

 

    Special Recognition Award: Roger Mandigo, professor of animal

    science and food science, University of Nebraska; Robert N. Terrell,

    principal, Robert Terrell and Associates; and Robert E. Rust, principal,

    Rust Associates Inc.

 

    Signal Service Award: Dell M. Allen, vice president of technical

    services and food safety, Excel Corp.; R. Bruce Tompkin, vice

    president for product safety, Armour Swift-Eckrich; and Jimmy W.

    Wise, meat marketing specialist, USDA Agricultural Marketing Service.

 

    R.C. Pollock Award: Roger W. Mandigo, professor of animal science

    and food science, University of Nebraska.
